I wrote this poem after observing an old man in the hospital emergency room. He was a World War II veteran. He was a man who had lived many years and seen many things. In that moment, however, it seemed that he was just someone occupying a room until he could be safely returned to a retirement home and forgotten about.
I know this week’s poem was a little depressing. If it has any impact, I hope it is to remind us to value life and care for each other.
